Notus Electronics
“Wireless dredge monitoring — see exactly what your dredge is doing, in real time.”
Notus Electronics, based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, designs and builds net and gear monitoring systems for the marine industry. Its Dredgemaster system installs small, robust sensors on the dredge and transmits vital dredge angle and warp length information wirelessly to the vessel.
Unlike traditional one-way pingers, Notus sensors use an active two-way communication system: the sensors 'talk' to each other via proven two-way protocols. This makes Notus the only system capable of delivering true warp lengths, giving a real view of the gear. Sensors offer true omnidirectional beam patterns and variable data rates of 5, 10, 20 and 60 second intervals.

Dredgemaster wireless dredge monitoring
Sensors on the dredge transmit pitch angle, heel angle and warp lengths to a 3D display in the wheelhouse, with top, bird's-eye and alignment views.
Pitch angle monitoring
Shows the forward and backward lean of the dredge — if the pitch angle is incorrect the dredge does not dig into the bottom correctly, and the angle indicates when the bag is full. This feature alone can cut tow times in half.
Heel angle monitoring
Shows the side tilt of the dredge: see instantly if the dredge begins to roll over, and know whether it sits in a bank or a valley.
Starboard and port warp lengths
Indicate the exact amount of warp let out on each dredge for precise wire length — for example, easily set out 317 fathoms of warp to get a precise pitch angle.
System supply & installation
Complete wheelhouse and engine-room setup: Notus monitor, solid-state marine-grade computer, command unit, pre-amp and dredge hydrophone.
The Notus difference
- — Active two-way sensor communication, not one-way pingers
- — The only system delivering true warp lengths
- — Omnidirectional beam patterns in all sensors
Dredge hydrophone
- — Beam pattern 70° vertical, 60° horizontal
- — Output 192 dB Tx
- — Range 2,500+ m
Command unit
- — 1,000 code capacity
- — 24 kHz frequency
- — Serial output to PC, 120/240 VAC
