The long-term agreement covers future subsea cable infrastructure across northern Scotland, according to Van Oord.
Van Oord announced on 9 July 2026 that its consortium with Sumitomo Electric had signed a long-term framework agreement with SSEN Transmission for future High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) subsea transmission infrastructure across the north of Scotland.
According to Van Oord, the agreement covers engineering, supply, transport and installation of HVDC subsea cable systems. It includes initial design and engineering work for the proposed 525 kV Shetland 2 HVDC link.
