Van Oord reports that commissioning of new water-management infrastructure at Den Oever marked completion of the Afsluitdijk upgrades.
According to Van Oord, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Vincent Karremans officially commissioned the new pumping station and discharge sluices at Den Oever on 1 October 2026. This marked completion of the Afsluitdijk reinforcement and modernisation project.
Van Oord says the upgrades strengthen protection against high seawater levels and increase capacity to discharge water from Lake IJsselmeer into the Wadden Sea.
